Ultra-Compact and Rugged Design
The RX0 II is remarkably small and lightweight, making it highly portable and discreet. Its robust construction is a key selling point: it’s waterproof to 10 meters (33 feet) without a separate housing, shockproof from drops of up to 2 meters (6.5 feet), and crushproof against weights up to 200kgf (440lbf). This makes it an ideal camera for use in challenging environments, capturing unique perspectives where larger cameras simply cannot go, or for extreme sports and documentary work.
High-Quality Imaging in a Small Package
Despite its diminutive size, the RX0 II features a 1.0-type (1-inch) Exmor RS CMOS sensor, which is significantly larger than typical action camera sensors. This allows it to capture higher quality images with better low-light performance and dynamic range. Coupled with the fixed ZEISS Tessar T* 24mm (35mm equivalent) F4 lens, it delivers sharp, detailed still images (15.3MP) and video with minimal distortion.
Internal 4K Recording and Advanced Video Features
The camera supports internal 4K (QFHD 3840 x 2160) recording at 30p, using full pixel readout and 1.7x oversampling for exceptional clarity. It also offers Full HD recording up to 120p and impressive super slow-motion capabilities at up to 960fps/1000fps, allowing for creative manipulation of time. The newly added electronic image stabilisation helps produce smoother handheld footage, which is a significant improvement for a camera of this type.
Versatile for Unique Perspectives and Multi-Camera Setups
The RX0 II is an excellent tool for capturing unusual or hard-to-reach angles, thanks to its small size and durability. Its flat, symmetrical design also makes it perfectly suited for multi-camera arrays for VFX, virtual reality, or bullet-time effects. Multiple cameras can be synchronized and controlled either wirelessly via Sony’s Imaging Edge Mobile app or with greater precision via a wired connection using the optional Camera Control Box (CCB-WD1).
Tilting LCD and Professional Features
The 1.5-inch LCD screen can tilt 180 degrees upwards and 90 degrees downwards, making it convenient for selfies, vlogging, and shooting from high or low angles—even underwater. For professional users, the camera includes a microphone input for better audio quality than the built-in mic and supports Picture Profiles, including S-Log2 gamma, allowing for extensive colour grading and matching with other professional Sony cameras in a post-production workflow. The anti-distortion shutter also helps to minimize rolling shutter effects with fast-moving subjects.
