ARRI Mini Follow Focus MFF-2

The ARRI Mini Follow Focus MFF-2 is a compact manual follow focus designed for lightweight cine camera builds. The Cine version uses a 2:1 gear ratio with standard 0.8 MOD lens gearing, giving smooth, precise focus control without the bulk of a studio follow focus. Interchangeable knobs, hard-stop options and flexible-shaft accessories make it adaptable to different operating setups.

Overview

  • Compact ARRI manual follow focus for lightweight camera rigs.
  • 2:1 gear ratio on the MFF-2 Cine version for precise focus control.
  • Standard 0.8 MOD cine gearing for compatibility with most cinema lenses.
  • Available with standard, hard-stop and 2-speed focus knobs.
  • Hard-stop knob option allows repeatable A/B focus pulls.
  • Compatible with a range of interchangeable ARRI follow-focus gears for different lens types.
  • Can be paired with short or long flexible shafts for remote manual operation.
  • Designed to integrate with standard lightweight rod-based cine setups.

Use Cases

Use the Cine version for standard cinema lenses.
The 2:1 ratio gives you more hand-wheel travel for a given movement of the lens, which helps with precise focus pulls on lenses with long focus throws.

Set hard stops for repeated pulls.
If your MFF-2 is fitted with the hard-stop knob, mark the near and far positions during rehearsal and use the stops to make repeated takes more consistent.

Check gear engagement carefully.
The drive gear should mesh firmly with the lens without pushing the barrel sideways. Too much pressure can make the lens feel stiff and introduce uneven movement.

Choose the right gear size for the lens.
ARRI offers several 0.8 MOD gear diameters and widths, which can help when working with unusually large lens barrels or focus rings that move axially.

Use a flexible shaft when access is restricted.
ARRI offer 300mm and 900mm flexible shafts, which can move the operating position away from the camera when the rig is awkward to reach directly.

Use the marking disc during rehearsals.
Marking focus distances or subject positions on the removable disc gives the focus puller a quick visual reference without relying only on the lens scale.

Keep the setup compact.
One of the MFF-2’s main advantages is its size, so it works particularly well on stripped-back handheld or shoulder builds where a larger studio follow focus would add unnecessary weight.
