The GoPro MISSION 1 PRO is a compact cinema camera built around a 1-inch 50MP sensor and GoPro’s GP3 processor. It records up to 8K60, 4K240 and 1080p960, with 8K30 and 4K120 Open Gate options for flexible reframing. Its small, rugged body makes it particularly useful for specialist rigs, action work, vehicle mounts and positions where a conventional cinema camera would be impractical.
Overview
- 1-inch 50MP sensor designed to capture more light and detail than traditional action-camera formats.
- Records up to 8K60 in 16:9.
- High-frame-rate recording up to 4K240 and 1080p960.
- 8K30 Open Gate 4:3 capture gives extra vertical image area for reframing and stabilisation.
- 4K120 Open Gate for high-frame-rate shooting with a taller sensor area.
- New GP3 processor designed for higher resolutions, faster frame rates and improved thermal efficiency.
- Supports HLG HDR, dedicated low-light modes, subject tracking and burst slow motion.
- Uses GoPro’s standard fixed lens platform, keeping the camera compact and easy to mount in difficult positions.
Use Cases
- Vehicle, helmet, body and specialist mounting where a conventional cinema camera is too large.
- High-frame-rate inserts, action sequences and practical effects requiring 4K240 or faster capture.
- Open Gate acquisition where footage may need to be reframed for multiple aspect ratios or stabilised heavily in post.

Use Open Gate when you need flexibility later.
The 4:3 Open Gate modes retain more vertical image area than a standard 16:9 frame, giving post more room for stabilisation, horizon correction and alternative aspect ratios.
Choose 8K when reframing matters.
8K capture gives considerably more room to crop, reposition or stabilise the image while retaining a useful final resolution.
Use 4K240 selectively.
The high-frame-rate modes are ideal for short action moments, impacts and specialist inserts, but they generate more data and can require more light than normal-speed recording.
Use the 1-inch sensor to your advantage.
The larger sensor is especially useful in lower-light situations where smaller action cameras can begin to show noise or lose colour detail.
Keep the lens clean on exposed rigs.
Small POV cameras are often mounted close to roads, water, dust and spray. Check the front element between takes, particularly on vehicle and exterior setups.
Think about battery and heat on long takes.
The GP3 processor is designed for improved efficiency and thermal performance, but high-resolution and high-frame-rate modes remain demanding. Plan power and airflow around the recording mode you actually need.
Use a protective housing for hostile environments.
For positions exposed to impact, water or heavy contamination, add the appropriate GoPro housing rather than relying on the camera body alone.
Match the camera to the shot rather than forcing it everywhere.
MISSION 1 PRO is most useful when its size, ruggedness or frame rates solve a specific problem. For conventional dialogue coverage, a larger cinema camera may still give you more control over optics and depth of field.
