Zoom H6essential Audio Recorder

The Zoom H6essential is a compact 6-track recorder built around 32-bit float capture, making it easier to handle unpredictable levels without constantly riding gain. It combines four XLR/TRS inputs with an interchangeable stereo mic capsule, and can also work as a USB audio interface while recording to SD. A practical option for location sound, interviews, podcasts and lightweight production setups.

Use 32-bit float for unpredictable levels.
The recorder captures a very wide dynamic range, so sudden peaks are far less likely to ruin a take. You can bring levels back into a sensible range later in post.

Keep the X/Y capsule for room tone and ambience.
Even when the main dialogue is going into the XLR inputs, the stereo capsule can give you useful environmental sound or a safety perspective.

Choose the sample rate for the workflow.
48 kHz is the usual choice for film and television work, while 96 kHz can be useful when you want higher-resolution capture for sound design or post manipulation.

Take advantage of simultaneous USB and SD recording.
For remote interviews, live streams or podcast setups, the H6essential can feed a computer while still creating an internal recording as backup.

Use the capsule system when the job changes.
Zoom’s 3.0 capsule system lets you swap the supplied X/Y microphone for compatible alternatives when you need a different pickup pattern or more inputs.

Export to a simpler format when needed.
The H6essential records natively in 32-bit float, but files can be exported as 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float if another piece of software needs a more conventional format.
